As advanced technologies are disrupting a wide range of industries, the need for a digital New Collar workforce is immediate. The rapid pace at which 3D printers, robots, virtual reality, predictive analytics, drones, and autonomous vehicles are being adopted translates into a need for innovative Life-long Learning models that can open doors to 21st-century workforce opportunities.

New Collar Digital Badges are a micro-certification issued by the North American Digital Fabrication Alliance, started by a group of Fab Labs associated with the Center for Bits and Atoms at MIT.  With funding from America Makes, initial badges cover additive manufacturing topics for FDM and SLA 3D printers.  Additional subjects are being added to certify skills that are in demand across industries.
This interactive day-long workshop includes:
  • Keynotes
    • How New Collar jobs can build our communities
    • Digital Badges as Pathways to College Degrees
    •  Life-long Learning
  • Networking Lunch
  • Deep Dive on Digital Badge Parameters
    • Background & History
    • New Collar’s Platform
    • “Currency” as Employer Acceptance
    • Transferability between granting organizations
    • Options for Students
    • Up-skilling incumbent workers
